Canary Islands, Friday the thirteenth day of October two thousand and twenty-three.

Dear participants and contributors:

It is with great regret that the organisers of the Canarias Salsa Open and Megadancers European Salsa League announce a decision that we have not taken lightly. After an exhaustive and continuous effort over the last six months to ensure the success of our event, we regret to inform you that we are forced to postpone it, setting the new date for the second quarter of 2024.

Since the beginning of the planning of this celebration, we have worked tirelessly to gather the necessary resources, sponsorship and the required approvals from government authorities. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts and the importance of this event, we have not been able to obtain the necessary level of support and commitment from some institutions.

We would like to expressly thank the Organismo Autónomo de Cultura and the Sociedad de Desarrollo del Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife for their support to this competition. But this support is not enough to be able to develop the event with guarantees of success and budgetary stability. We fail to understand the lack of importance given to the event by the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands in comparison to previous editions. In any case, we are grateful for the time they have taken to receive, analyse and evaluate the project.

Unfortunately, in these circumstances, we have no choice but to suspend the competitions scheduled for 10-12 November and postpone the event to next year. We are committed to re-evaluating our strategy and looking for alternative ways to continue progressing towards our goals, including exploring other avenues of funding and support.

We understand and share the disappointment of participants and dance lovers, as many of you have invested time and resources in this event. We would like to express our sincere thanks for your support and commitment to our effort. Your contributions have been fundamental to the progress we have made so far.

We deeply apologise for any inconvenience this decision may cause you and stand ready to provide additional information and respond to your questions in the coming days. We also welcome your suggestions and comments on how we might address this situation more effectively in the future. Refunds for tickets purchased will be issued as of 10 November. Cancellations that occurred after the first change of venue date will be refunded prior to this date.

Once again, thank you for your commitment and support. Those who believe that this stumble fills us with discouragement and abandonment of a project that has been running for 20 successful years are not aware of our constancy and dedication to the dissemination and support of the world of dance. We will continue to work tirelessly to achieve our goals and we hope to be able to count on your support in future initiatives.
